Sauvignon Blanc 2010 Well it certainly isn’t a bland wine… its bursting with something! I don’t think I like gooseberries or melon, but its something green and pleasantly acid, with good aftertaste. Philip

Villebois Prestige 2010
25 april 2011Comment on: Villebois Prestige Sauvignon Blanc 2010
An excellent example of Loire Valley Sauvignon.
Typical green aromas on the nose with a definite hint of sweet tropical fruit.
On the palate, the tropical fruit is initially apparent, quickly followed by fresh green fruits and finished with a dry mineral finish.
Perfectly balanced – refinement and elegance with depth and complexity of flavour, freshness and vitality without excessive acidity, hints of tropical sweetness combined with steely dry finish.
Excellent. Exactly what I want in a Sauvignon.

Heerlijke Sauvignon Blanc volgens Decanter
31 maart 2011“just the sort of white that should prove really popular at the moment”
27 februari 2011Petit Villebois Sauvignon Blanc 2009, by Tom Lewis
“This wine has characteristic Loire flinty gunsmoke on the nose and an apples-and-pears acidity with some cantaloupe melon on the palate. It is balanced and less herbaceous than many a Sauvignon; it is also lighter, with less intensity, structure or minerality, although the length does improve with some air.
Naked suggest this as a mid-week quaffer, and it certainly is light enough to drink without food – it was a little overpowered by the cheese that we had with it, and would probably match better with plain white fish.
To my mind, this is just the sort of white that should prove really popular at the moment – with plenty of fresh Sauvignon character but less in-yer-face than the overly tropical New World versions and a very easy-drinking crowd-pleasing style, but still grown-up and sophisticated

Villebois is Dutch owned. The 2009 Villebois is made by Thierry Merlet, who trained in Australia and worked for Brian Croser at Petaluma, before returning to France and working in the Cher Valley. It is the most citric, aromatic and refreshing of the three Sauvignons here. Watching this video clip on YouTube, explains why is this is the case. In the clip Thierry explains that the Sauvignon is picked at different times. Part of the Sauvignon is picked early to give the aromas and freshness, while part is picked later to give some weight and body to the wine.

Petit Villebois: "Very light, dry nose and no excess sweetness"
Villebois Sauvignon Blanc from the vineyards south of Blois on the banks of the Cher, "obviously expressive, really racy and lively; good balance.GV. Appetising".
Villebois Brut NV Crémant de Loire: "very clean and fresh. Aged and really very clean- just slightly chewy.Nice clean packaging".
"De wijnmakers van Villebois geven een moderne wending aan de oogst, waardoor deze vooral bij de liefhebber van Nieuw-Zeelandse sauvignon blanc in de smaak zal vallen. Stuivend, enigszins exotisch, sappige rondingen, lekker wat kruisbessen en met voldoende ‘staal’ om de smaakpapillen af en toe nog een flinke tik te geven."
